Celebrities and Corporations Nominated for the 2005 Pop Icon Award
Los Angeles, CA April 14, 2004 – Pop Sustainability revealed its newest contribution to the world of sustainable development by announcing the nominees for the 2005 Pop Icon Awards at the Outstanding Sustainable Style Awards (OSSA) in Beverly Hills on April 14 th, 2004.
"The Pop Icon awards showcase exemplary corporations and celebrity promoters of sustainability," explained Pop Sustainability's Executive Director, Kim Heismann. "Young adults are demanding more from the businesses they buy from and the celebrities they look up to. Sustainability is becoming an up-and-coming favorite amongst those demands."
In the morass of popular culture, an icon always stands out. The winners of Pop Sustainability’s Pop Icon Award do just that. Amongst the hundreds of awards given out every year, the Pop Icon Awards recognizes the successful efforts of one brand and one celebrity to be both an active participant and a known entity in creating a more sustainable world. These recipients understand and accept the responsibility as important role models and creative thinkers applying the principles of sustainability to their everyday practices.
Heismann announced the 16 nominees (eight celebrity personalities and eight corporations) at the OSSAs during a speech announcing the award. “Over the last 6 years of our existence, Pop Sustainability has noticed that there are some icons whose creativity has become a bold statement for sustainability. These are the bold and courageous nominees for the 2005 Pop Icon Award. The corporate nominees are: Intel Corporation, Philips Electronics, Nokia, Adidas-Salomon, EMI Group, Unilever, Groupe Danone and Cadbury Schweppes.
