Notes on Less Than Zero
Trajal Harrell Dance Style will premiere their first full evening work at Danspace Project June 3-6, 2004. This work for four dancers entitled "Notes on Less Than Zero" is based on the notorious 80s novel "Less Than Zero" by Brett Easton Ellis.
This new work takes Harrell's previous choreographic explorations in formalism, fashion runway movement, and voguing dance tradition into the realm of character and storytelling. Rather than retelling Ellis' story, the company combines their ongoing investigation of the "aesthetic of cool" with Ellis' themes of youthful disillusionment, decadence, self-destruction, and "way too cool" self images.
“Notes on Less Than Zero” is performed by Eric Pettigrew, Anne Pinomaki-Ballantyne, Rob Stupay, and Trajal Harrell. The design team collaborating with Harrell includes lighting designer Thomas Dunn, set designer Erik Flatmo, and fashion designer Joseph Carter, the design director of Marc Jacobs Women's
Collection.
