January 7, 2002 Sustain New York: Dine Together Pop Sustainability, a non-profit organization committed to promoting the concepts and practices of sustainability through popular culture, today announced the launch of Sustain New York: Dine Together, a Monday-night dining event supporting restaurants in Lower Manhattan starting January 7 through March 25th. Sustain New York: Dine Together is a three-month campaign that was developed in response to the events of September 11th. What is emerging from the aftermath of the attacks is a need for communities and individuals to re-connect in space and time. The campaign consists of a partnership with twelve high-end restaurants in Lower Manhattan that will alternately host a weekly dinner event for 50-100 people. At the events, participants will have the opportunity to dine on locally grown, seasonal, organic foods, meet one another, and have intimate conversations about current world events. Participating restaurants include The Juniper Café, The Screening Room, The Independent, Herban Kitchen, Tja!, and Grace. The campaign is an initiative to unite people in a fun and original way while building an awareness of sustainability, supporting social causes and local businesses, and inspiring people to take further action that is socially, environmentally, and economically beneficial. The campaign highlights ways the restaurants are incorporating sustainability into their business practices. The dinners can accommodate 50-100 people and cost $40 per person (tax and gratuity included). Reservations are required through www.popsustainability.org. Pop Sustainability is a nonprofit organization created to popularize the concepts and practices of sustainability amongst young adults (ages 18-35) by developing cultural campaigns that promote economic, environmental and social consciousness. Pop Sustainability's goal is to translate the principles of sustainability into everyday practices. Sustainability refers to three-dimensional, long-term solutions that synthesize social, environmental and economic aspects to be omni-beneficial. These solutions are geared to meet the resource needs of current generations without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
